About
Silent Thunder War Memorial For Freedom
We are a number of patriotic Americans who wish to honor the American service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. We are veter- ans, non- veterans, political, non-political – everyday citizens united by the common desire to honor the fallen heroes by building a living memorial to them.
Silent Thunder Memorial for Freedom has been erected as a living monument at its temporary location in Manassas, Virginia. When completed, each memorial space will include the name, date of birth, date of death, hometown and state, military branch and rank of each deceased service member and the last place where they served. Above each of these inscriptions will be a ceramic photo of each hero embedded into the granite.
The memorial was unveiled on March 19, 2006 with surviving war veterans of several different wars in attendance, along with active duty veterans of both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom campaigns. The Virginia Army National Guard in full dress uniform was also present and performed a flag raising ceremony at the site.
Our belief is that this memorial is an appropriate way not only to recognize and honor the sacrifice and loyalty of each fallen hero, but also as a reminder to the many who answered our country’s call to serve.
While we are presently small in number, we urge you to join the Silent Thunder Memorial Association. There is no cost or obligation. We are currently in dire need of volunteers to support us in all aspects of the project including completion of the monument and selection of a permanent site.
